I became symptomatic for idiopathic torsional dystonia back in 2001 while working on my Ph.D. at the U of Michigan. Even though dystonia can be a constant, nagging pain, life is beautiful and precious. Since being diagnosed, I have experienced both good & bad. I took up cycling even though I have issues walking. In 2015 I married the love of my life. I have decided not to let dystonia DEFINE me; I want to live life…and defy dystonia.

Rough Morning
As I was exercising yesterday morning (a Kenpo workout...or at least my best rendition of one), the kids decided it was a good time to start wrestling & horseplaying near me. I accidentally stepped on Myrtle's paw, and I immediately jumped to not hurt her. In doing so, I lost my balance and fell face-first on the floor, resulting in a carpet burn on my face & quite a headache! Luckily, my mustache covers most of the sore. Even more of a blessing is that Myrtle was fine. Both kids were scared when I fell, coming to my rescue with licks, of course! Since the fall, I have been very sore and could not exercise this morning.
