A Great Morning at the Park
Everything seemed to come together this morning to make it a wonderful day to take the kids to the dog park. The sun was not blaring...the temps in the low 80s. Thursdays are my "easy" day at work since I usually do not need to go in until the afternoon. I know how much Myrtle loves going to the park, and I am hoping that Amos, too, will enjoy "park days". I was feeling quite well this morning, even if I did not get a chance to work out. My muscles were not too stiff, and I had fewer muscle contractions overnight. All being considered, today would be a park day. I packed the "park bag" that I acquired from a science conference a few years ago and I use to carry their water bowl, at least one pen (for grading), textbooks, papers, etc. Whenever Myrtle sees me packing the park bag, she gets so excited. Today was no different.

Amos eagerly jumped into the car on his own...to him, there is no sense in waiting for me to pick him up. After loading Myrtle (too big... or too old... or just too lazy... to jump up in the Terrain), we were off to the nearby dog park. We were the only ones there. Both kids were so excited once we were in the park that I could not hardly remove their leashes. Myrtle behaved as she normally does at the park (at least on days when it is not crowded) by doing her business and then finding a good spot to lie down to watch other people, cars, cyclists, and so on. Amos, on the other hand, just ran circles. He ran and ran until he would crash. He would chase the tennis ball that I had packed in the park bag. He was exhausted by the time we left.
Now, Amos has decided it is time for a nap and has crawled up on my lap to sleep as I work on the computer (and take a few moments to write this entry). I know he has had quite a good time this morning. I'm just hoping that he doesn't get too excited when his Grandpa arrives tomorrow night for a visit. This will be the first time Amos will meet one of my parents.
I am so thankful you are taking good care of Amos! I do miss his energy. Your description of him running made me laugh. I used to chase Dixie in circles around the yard. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteI try to take them to the park at least once a week. Amos makes friends with the other dogs easily. My Dad flew in for the Labor Day holiday, and Amos took to his Grandpa quite well.
